The New Orleans Saints have announced the signing of free agent long snapper Jason Kyle, while they released long time long snapper, Kevin Houser. Kyle has played his last couple of seasons with the Saints division rival Carolina Panthers.
Kyle was not re-signed by the Panthers because of their tight salary cap situation. Kyle was probably waiting to resign with the Panthers, but after Julius Peppers re-signed he probably realized that resigning was not an option.
Houser was competing with Rob Ninkovich, who usually plays defensive end. Ninkovich will probably move back to defensive end now that Kyle has been signed. Ninkovich can also play linebacker for a team employing a 3-4 scheme.
