The San Francisco 49ers have announced that they have released veteran cornerback Allen Rossum. Rossum was the 49ers to kick and punt returner. To fill his roster spot, the 49ers activated Michael Crabtree.
Rossum becomes a free agent, and the 49ers could re-sign him easily if they wanted to. The 49ers are in a bye week during week six, so it was probably good timing to make the move now. Rossum went to the Pro Bowl in 2004.
Rossum will probably sign with a team in the next couple of weeks and come in right away as their starting kick or punt returner. Arnaz Battle couls see action as a returner for the 49ers now that Rossum is gone.
