Jay Glazer of Fox Sports is reporting that Philadelphia Eagles have traded receiver Brandon Gibson and a fifth round pick to the St. Louis Rams for linebacker Will Witherspoon. The trade occurred just before the 2009 trade deadline.
Witherspoon could see action at middle linebacker, although he played outside linebacker in 2009. With the loss of starting middle linebacker Stewart Bradley, the Eagles have struggled at middle linebacker all year.
The Rams went after Gibson to get more depth at receiver, where Donnie Avery is banged up, and the Rams have lost plenty of others including Laurent Robinson, the Rams receiving core is a mess.
Gibson, who was drafted in the sixth round this past year, has not seen any game action in 2009. Omar Gaither, who was starting at middle linebacker for the Eagles, is not expected to play next week.
