Redskins Could Release Clinton Portis

Rick Maese of the Washington Post is reporting that the Washington Redskins could trade or release starting running back Clinton Portis this offseason. Future Redskins head coach Mike Shanahan traded Portis when he was in Denver.

Portis may not be the only star Redskin leaving town before the start of next season. Jason Campbell could be traded before the start of the season, as well as defensive tackle Albert Haynesworth.

Portis is scheduled to make $6.4 million dollars in guaranteed money. The redskins have plenty of running backs behind portis that could be used in a Mike Shanahan style rotation: including Ladell Betts and Quinton Ganther.
