With the recent firing of Steelers special teams coordinator Bob Ligashesky, the Steelers will now join the race to hire former Bills special teams coordinator Bobby April. The Steelers had some of the worst kickoff coverage I have seen in recent memory, and I am a Colts fan.
April was the Steelers special teams coach in 1994 and in 1995. April is considered the best special teams coach in the NFL, and is one of the hottest coaches on the market today. April is know for developing all aspects of a special teams unit.
There have also been rumors that April could join Mike Shanahan and co. in Washington. The Steelers will likely add a new kicker in 2010, with Jeff Reed and his wild parties coming to an end in Pittsburgh.
