Steve Mariucci Top Candidate To Coach At USC

Adam Schefter of ESPN is reporting that former Detroit Lions head coach Steve Mariucci is the top candidate to take over for Pete Carroll at USC. Schefter is reporting that Jaguars head coach Jack Del Rio is not interested in the Trojan's opening.

Mariucci currently works with NFL Network on their NFL GameDay show. Mariucci last coached three seasons with the Detroit Lions, where he was unable to develop Joey Harrington. Mariucci coached the 49ers from 1997 to 2002.

Before his tenure with the 49ers, Mariucci was the head coach of the California Golden Bears. Mariucci spent some time in Las Angeles already, when he served as the Rams' offensive quality control coach.
