Daunte Culpepper, unable to secure a shot with an NFL team, has decided to reunite with his old Minnesota Vikings Head Coach Dennis Green and has officially signed with the Sacramento Mountain Lions of the United Football League.
Culpepper is probably the biggest name to sign with the league in its early existence. Simeon Rice did play, but he was well past his prime when he played in 2009 for the New York Sentinels. Culpepper may be past his NFL prime, but I think he can still gunsling it around the field a bit.
Daunte would like to lead a wide open offensive attack, much like he did in Minnesota, but The Mountain Lions, who played 2009 as the California Redwoods, struggled a bit offensively.
They scraped together just 277.3 yards per game and managed just 11 offensive touch downs for the entire 2009 season. If Daunte wants a wide open attack, a lot of work must be done.
We should also note that this team won just two games in 2009, both against the hapless New York Sentinels. They did however play eventual the UFL Champion Las Vegas Locos pretty tough in week six of the 2009 season.
