When The Colts Go Marching In

How To Make The Pro Bowl Relevant

While I was looking through my twitter timeline I found a tweet about how the NFL could make the Pro Bowl relevant. I came up with an idea almost as soon as I saw the tweet.

Compensate the teams in the winning conference with a compensatory draft pick(s).

Right now teams don't play hard because, well there really isn't any reason to. Under my new proposal, the AFC and NFC teams would have something to play for.

It would be interesting to see how the commish would respond to my idea.

Do you think compensation will work? Do you see any flaws with my plan? Fell free to comment below.

Rolle Could Head To Miami

Armando Salguero of the Miami Herald is reporting that Arizona Cardinals free safety Antrel Rolle could sign with the Miami Dolphins this offseason. The Dolphins current free safety is Gibril Wilson.

The Dolphins could release Wilson this offseason, because he struggled in coverage this season. Wilson is best suited for strong safety. Wilson recorded 91 tackles last season, but he failed to record an interception.

Rolle, a former cornerback, has solid ball skills, and recorded four interceptions in 2009. Wilson is a solid box safety, who would fit well as a bridge for a younger player into a starting lineup.

Jim Zorn To Coach The Ravens

Adam Caplan of Scout.com is reporting that the Baltimore Ravens are expected to hire Jim Zorn as their quarterbacks coach. Zorn spent 2009 and 2008 as the head coach of the Washington Redskins.

Zorn will work with Joe Flacco, Troy Smith, and John Beck, as he will once again try to develop young quarterbacks. To Zorn's credit, he helped develop Jason Campbell into a better quarterback in only two seasons in Washington.

Before Zorn was hired as the Redskins head coach, and offensive coordinator, he served as the quarterbacks coach for the Seattle Seahawks. The Raiders have also looked at hiring former Rams coach Al Saunders.

Mark Sanchez: Stop Being A Woman

Last night the NFL announced t6hat they fined Colts safety Melvin Bullitt $5,000 for his hit on Mark Sanchez in the AFC Championship game. Here is the play....

I thought the hit was legit, and I don't think Bullitt had the intent of hurting Sanchez,, BUT it should have been flagged. The refs from the AFC Championship admitted that the call should have been a late hit.

Here is a quote from Bullitt:

"Five thousand dollars, that hurts," Bullitt said. "I understand [Ryan] being mad because that's his quarterback, but I didn't try to hurt him. I was just playing football. I didn't know if he had the ball or not. I was coming from behind."

NFL Network Joins Forces With Hulu!

Mashable.com is reporting that the NFL has reached a deal that will make the NFL Network avalible on Hulu.com.

For the great respect Hulu receives for taking up the Cable companies slack, I offer them a high five.

Speaking of NFL Network. How can I get MLB Network, but I can't get NFL Network? Nobody cares about baseball anymore!

Here is the article from Mashable

Kurt Warner Announces Retirment

The Associated Press is reporting that Arizona Cardinals quarterback Kurt Warner has announced his retirement from the NFL. Warner, 38, won two Super Bowls with the St. Louis Rams.

Warner lead the Cardinals to back-to-back playoff births the last two seasons, which included an incredible Super Bowl run in 2008. Warner had one year left on his mega contract that he signed after last year's Super Bowl run.

Warner will be replaced by Matt Leinart, who has spent his last two seasons backing up Warner. Leinart spent his first two seasons in Arizona as apart-time starter at quarterback. The offense under Leinart will be much more run oriented.

Mike Martz Interveiws With Bears

Sean Jenson of the Chicago Sun-Times is reporting that the Chicago Bears have interviewed Mike Martz for their offensive coordinator role. Martz is interviewing to replace Ron Turner, who was fired early on this offseason.

Martz last coach as the San Francisco 49ers offensive coordinator in 2008. In 2007 and 2006 he served as the offensive coordinator for the Detroit Lions. The Bears have been rumored to be interested in Saints tight ends coach Terry Malone, and Colts offensive coordinator Clyde Christensen.

Yesterday the Bears interviewed Minnesotta Vikings quarterbacks coach Kevin Rogers for their offensive coordinator spot. It is interesting that Martz is interviewing on the same day that Kurt Warner retires. Coincidence? I think not.

Chad Ochocinco Preforms His Debut "Dat Ain't My Baby"

In a stunning debut of Chad Ochocinco's new album "Child Please", Ochocinco preforms his hit single "Dat Ain't My Baby"

Joey Porter Wants Out Of Miami

Armado Salguero of the Miami Herald is reporting that Mami Dolphins outside linebacker Joey Porter does not want to play in Miami in 2010. Salguero is reporting that Porter has discussed his future with Dolphins head coach Tony Sparano.

Porter is unhappy that he was not on the field for more snaps last season, instead the Dolphins gave more snaps to Cameron Wake and Charlie Anderson. Porter is scheduled to make $2.4 million in guarenteed money next season.

Salgfuero also mentions that the Dolphins might also want to move on withyout Porter in 2010. In addition to the possibility of losing Porter, the Dolphins may also decide to let outside linebacker Jason Taylor leave in free agency.

Obama Rooting For Saints

Politico.com is reporting that President Barack Obama will be rooting for the Saints in the Colts-Saints Super Bowl XLIV. Obama says he is rooting for the Saints because what has happened in New Orleans the last few years.

New Orleans is the more popular team according to some polls, but our poll on Reservation For Six, shows the Colts as outstanding favorites. I personally think the game will be a landslide, but check back to see who I pick.

Cowboys Tryout CFL Kicker

The Calgary Sun is reporting that the Dallas Cowboys had a tryout with Calgary Stampeders kicker Sandro DeAngelis. Shaun Suisham and David Buehler are the two kickers currently on the Cowboys' roster.

DeAngelis has an 84% field goal percentage in his five years with the team. In five seasons in the NFL, Suisham has completed 79% of his field goals. Buehler has not kicked in the NFL, and will serve only as a kickoff specialist.

Suisham was just signed a couple of weeks ago after Nick Folk missed some very costly field goals in week seventeen and in the wild-card matchup against the Eagles. The Cowboys released Folk a couple of weeks ago.

I Gotta Feeling - Vikings Edition

I thought this was worth sharing...

Broncos Hire Steelers Special Teams Coordinator

Mike Klis of the Denver Post is reporting that the Denver Broncos have hired former Pittsburgh Steelers special teams coordinator Bob Ligashesky as their tight ends coach. Ligashesky replaces Clancy Barone, who was promoted to offensive line coach.

The Broncos have also announced that they have promoted offensive assistant Mike McDainiels to quarterbacks coach, where he will take over Mike McCoy's duties. McCoy will now serve as the Broncos full time offensive coordinator.

In addition to those moves the Broncos hired Eric Studesville as their running backs coach. Studesville last worked as the Buffalo Bills running backs coach. He replaces Bobby Turner, who landed in Washington.

Michael Vick Accused Of Using Steroids

Jason Trahan and Gary Jacobson of the Dallas Morning News are reporting that Philadelphia Eagles quarterback Michael Vick has been accused of buying steroids from David Jacobs, a Plano steroids dealer.

Jacobs reportedly dealt to Matt Lehr, who was busted a couple of years ago for steroid use. Jacobs committed suicide, which may help Vick in his potential law troubles. According to Jacobs there was widespread use of his products in the Falcons locker room.

According to the Dallas Morning News, the steroid masking agent that Jacobs said Vick used is called finasteride. On Google shopping, the substance costs as little as $30 dollars, but goes up to over $170.

Raiders Keep Cable As Coach In 2010

Adam Schefter of ESPN is reporting that the Oakland Raiders will retain Tom Cable as their head coach in 2010. Cable has one year left on his contract, and it would not be surprising if he does not return next season.

According to ESPN, Davis was kept Cable because he was popular with the players. Cable has a 9-19 record as the Raiders head coach. The funny thing about cable, is that his college coaching record is even worse than his pro record.

In fact Cable has never been a head coach of a team with a winning record. Cable held an 11-35 record as a collegiate head coach. Before being named the Raiders interim head coach in 2008, Cable served as the Raiders offensive line coach.

Colts CB Powers Doubtful For Jets Game

The Indianapolis Colts have announced that they have demoted cornerback Jerraud Powers from questionable to doubtful. Undrafted free agent rookie Jacob Lacey will start if Powers can't go.

Powers' left foot injury kept him out of practice all week. With Lacey starting out wide, Tim Jennings will now take up Lacey's duties in the slot. Powers replaced Marlin Jackson this season, after Jackson spent all season with the injury bug.

Powers has recorded 65 tackles, one interception and ten pass breakups in 2009. Lacey has recorded 85 tackles, three interceptions, and 13 pass breakups. Jennings has recorded 57 tackles, intercepted two passes, and deflected ten passes.

Joey Galloway To Play In 2010, Could Head To UFL

Pittsburgh Steelers wide receiver Joey Galloway is unlikely to re-sign with the Steelers this offseason, but Galloway told reporters that he will wait for a call from a team after the season.

Galloway offers no value to nobody (anyone), since he has lost his greatest asset, speed. Galloway flopped in New England, and was not active in any games as a Steeler in 2009.

His situation reminds me a lot of Simeon Rice's situation. Both players relied of off speed. When they got older, they were not NFL talent anymore, but they still have the urge to play. I would think Galloway would consider the UFL.

Although Galloway may not be UFL talent, I'm sure the UFL would want his reputation in their league.

VIDEO: Most Amazing TD Catch Ever!

No.1 who appears to be a safety, drops the easy interception, but in an effort to resurrect the play, he bats the ball pack up in the air. He falls, while lying on the ground he give one last effort as he nearly strips the ball away.

After a little mini-research, I found out that the receiver's name is Zack Wilke. In that game, Wilke caught 12 passes for 185 yards, with his amazing 64 yard touchdown catch. He also lead the team in Rushing yards on that day.

Wilke also plays defensive back.

Here are some more of his highlights

This kid not only has amazing speed, but he also has great vision and ball skills. He is also a great punt returner. It will be interesting to see if he will be in the NFL in 5 years.

Reggie Bush To Marry Kardashian

The New York Post is reporting that Reggie Bush will propose to Kim Kardaishian if the Saints beat the Vikings this weekend. According to Kardashian, if the Saints win the super bowl, Bush will propose to Kardashian.

In other Reggie Bush gossip news, Perez "pink is my favorite color" Hilton wrote on his blog that Bush challenged Kardashian's stalker to a fight.

Like Mike Florio, I struggle with the OCD, which is why I am writing this third paragraph.

Reuben Droughns Caught With Farming Pot

FOX KDVR is reporting that former Cleveland Browns running back Reuben Droughns is now under investigation for a marijuana farming operation. According to the Drug Enforcement Agency, Droughns is growing pot inside his home.

Droughns excuse: I'm raising medical marijuana. According to the popo, Droughns is growing pot in his spare bedrooms. Droughns did not show investigators a medical marijuana card, buit his brotha and motha did.

This explains how Droughns was able to stay in the game....

Manhattan Renamed Revis Island

The ASSociated Press is reporting that New York mayor Michael Bloomberg has unofficially renamed Manhatten to Revis Island. Bloomberg was at a rush-hour pep rally for the upcoming Jets-Colts game.

C'mon guys. Let's be real here. Revis is a good cornerback, but he is not unstoppable. When the Colts played the Jets in week 16, Reggie Wayne consistently burned Revis, although he did not always catch the ball, he was open.

Bloomburg also put up a sign saying "Welcome To Revis Island". According to the AP, the sign will stay as long as the Jets stay in the playoffs.

Michael Vick Gets Reality TV Show

The Associated Press is reporting that Michael Vick will have a reality TV show on BET that will start next month. The show will be named "The Michael Vick Project". There series will have ten episodes.

Vick will use the series as an opportunity to show the world that he has changed. The show is set to kickoff a couple days before the Super Bowl. It would have made things a lot more interesting if the eagles were still in contention.

Sean Salisbury Comes Out Of The Closet

One of the funniest ongoing gags on football blogs these days, is the slamming of former ESPN analyst Sean Salisbury. Salisbury was accused of texting some ESPN co-workers a picture of his manhood in 2006.

Salisbury previously filed a lawsuit against Deadspin.com, where he claimed he had been victimized by a smear campaign. After ESPN heard the rumors, they suspended Salisbury for a week.

ESPN did not renew Salisbury's contract after 2008, and he was hired by a Dallas radio station. Salisbury left the Dallas radio station shortly after he was fired because of disagreements over his contract.

Championship Thursday Injury Report

VIKINGS

  • Percy Harvin

  • Kevin Williams

  • Ray Edwards

SAINTS

  • Jeremy Schocky

  • Malcolm Jenkins

The Saints and the Vikings were the only teams that had players who did not practice on Thursday.

Kevin Williams will play and start, but the status of Ray Edwards is much more in question. If Edwards can't play, Brian Robinson will start in his place. Percy Harvin once again is dealing with migraines. His status is uncertain, but I think he will play.

Seahawks Hire Sherman Smith

Adam Schefter of ESPN is reporting that the Seattle Seahawks are interviewing former Washington Redskins offensive coordinator Sherman Smith for the Seahawks running backs job. Smith played seven seasons with the Seahawks in the late 1970's and early 80's.

UPDATE:

The Seattle Seahawks have announced that they have hired Smith. Smith started his pro football coaching career with the Houston Oilers, where he served as their running back coach. Smith spent 2008 and 2009 as the Redskins' offensive coordinator.

Chargers Could Trade Cromartie?

Kevin Acee of the San Diego Union-Tribune is reporting that the San diego Chargers may trade cornerback Antonio Cromartie this offseason. With only one year left on his contract, the Chargers will look to use Cromartie as trade bait.

Losing Cromartie becomes less of a hardship for the Chargers defense because of the improved play of Antoine Cason. According to Michael Lombardo of Scout.com, the Chargers could look to sign Duanta Robinson if Cromartie leaves.

Cromartie is scheduled to make only $1.255 million next season, and he could be looking for a new contract from a team if/when he is traded.

VIDEO: Angry Coaches Mixtape

Pure genius!

Bears To Interveiw Rob Chudzinski

Dan Pompei of the Chicago Tribune is reporting that the Chicago Bears have scheduled an interview with San Diego Chargers tight end coach Rob Chudzinski. I consider Chudzinski the best tight ends coach in the NFL.

Chudzinski turned Antonio Gates from a no-name undrafted free agent into a star tight end in San Diego, and his work in Cleveland helped resurrect Kellen Winslow Jr.'s career. In Cleveland he was the mastermind behind the Brown's successful 2007 season.

FANTASY OWNERS: If Chudzinski is hired by the Bears, draft Greg Olsen like he is one of the top 5 tight ends in the NFL. Braylon Edwards and Derek Anderson also had much more success under Chudzinski than they did in 2009.

Championship Wednesday Injury Report

In a surprisingly empty injury report, most teams seem almost fully healthy on Wednesday. Below are the players who did not practice today, and there is a good chance that they will not play in the championship game.

COLTS

  • Jerraud Powers

JETS

  • Thomas Jones

  • Tony Richardson

  • Shaun Ellis

SAINTS

  • Robert Meachem

  • Malcolm Jenkins

  • Jeremy Shockey

  • Darren Sharper

VIKINGS

  • Ray Edwards

  • Kevin Williams

Jets Want Braylon Edwards To Sign Elsewhere?

Bob Glauber of Newsday.com is reporting that the New York Jets want a team to sign Braylon Edwards from them this offseason. According to Glauber, the Jets will tender Edwards with the highest tender, and hope that a team signs him.

Were a team to tender Edwards, they would have to give up a first and a third round pick. That is almost as bad of a deal as the Roy Williams' trade. Edwards is scheduled to become a RFA this offseason if a new CBA can't be reached.

Edwards has struggled to stay consistant since he was drafted in 2005. Edwards' focus and concentration have been brought to light aftrer he has struggled with drops the last two seasons.

Glenn Dorsey To The Lions?

Tom Kowalski of Michigan Live is reporting that the Detroit Lions could trade for Kansas City chiefs defensive linemen Glenn Dorsey. Dorsey was drafted by the Chiefs while current Lions defensive coordinator Gunther Cunningham was still coaching the Chiefs.

Dorsey is being used as a 3-4 defensive end in Kansas City, but he is a much better fit inside in a 4-3 scheme, which the Lions use. The Lions are looking for help at defensive tackle, where Sammie Lee and Grady Jackson did not impress in 2009.

Kowalski thinks the Lions could do something "creative" to land Dorsey, he mentioned swapping second round picks. First year player Alex Magee will likely replace Dorsey at end if he were to be traded.

Raiders Interveiwed Jim Harbaugh

Adam Schefter of ESPN is reporting that the Oakland Raiders have talked to Stanford head coach Jim Harbaugh about the Raiders head coaching job. Guess what Raida fans? He was not interested.

The point is people just don't want to be associated with the Raiders. The Raiders have a great history. Yes. But they have not been successful since the Jerry rice, Rice Gannon, Tim Brown era.

I am prepared to battle this one to the pulp. I am prepared to get an inbox flooded with hate mail. There is just no possible way that the Raiders can land a solid coach until Al Davis pays Pete Carroll money, or the Raiders start winning games.

49ers Hire Schottenheimer

The San Francisco 49ers have announced that they have hired Kurt Schottenheimer as their special teams coordinator. Schottenheimer is the uncle of Brian Schottenheimer, and the brother of Marty Schottenheimer.

Schottenheimer, last coached the Packers secondary in 2008. Schottenheimer replaces Al Everest, who was fired after two seasons in San Francisco. Schottenheimer coached as a defensive coordinator in Detroit, Kansas City, and Washington.

Singletary mentioned Schottenheimer's 30+ years of college a pro football coaching experience.

Donte' Stallworth To Be Reinstated By NFL

One of the many things I think are wrong with the NFL, is the way they handled the cases on Donte` Stallworth and Michael Vick. Stallworth, convicted on DUI manslaughter, will only serve a one year suspension, while Vick was suspended about two years.

According to ProFootballTalk, Stallworth will be reinstated after the Super Bowl. Stallworth is still under contract with the Cleveland Browns, but it seems likely that the Browns will release Stallworth once he is reinstated.

Under his current contract, Stallworth is scheduled to make $1.5 million next season, IF he stays with the Browns. Stallworth recently said on his twitter page that he is donating $1 for every new twitter follower he gets.

Chadv Ochocinco To Race Chris Johnson For Haiti Relief

Chris Johnson likes to race.

Esteban likes to race as well.

Well what are they waiting for?

According to Ochocinco, the loser will donate their Pro Bowl earnings to the relief efforts for Haiti. A couple of weeks ago, Johnson challenged Olympian Usain Bolt to a race, and a couple days before that, Johnson challenged Ted Ginn Jr. to a race.

In a Huffington Post poll, 21% of voters think that Ochocinco will win the race. (Ocho probably told all of his friends to vote).

Obviously, Johnson will beat Ochocinco, and I think it will not be close at all. I think Johnson vs. Bolt would be closer in a 40 yard dash than Ochocinco and Johnson in a 40 yard dash.

Eagles Tryout Star UFL Running Back

Adam Caplan of Scout.com is reporting that the Philadelphia Eagles have worked out free agent running backs DeDe Dorsey and Dwayne Wright. Dorsey was the MVP of the UFL's championship game.

Dorsey has rushed for 191 yards in his NFL career with a 7.1 yard average. Playing with the UFL in 2009, Dorsey ran 47 times for 303 yards and three touchdowns. Dorsey has more speed, while Wright is a powerful runner.

Wright spent this offseason with the New York Giants after he spent 2007 with the Buffalo Bills. Wright ran for 94 yards in 2007, while he carried a 3.4 yard average. Wright was drafted in the fourth round of the 2007 NFL Draft.

Police Brutality At Jets Game

This really disgusts me. I don't know the whole story, but from what I see, I think the popo should have let the dude go. One thing that the dude should not have done was resisting the arrest.

Brian Westbrook Could Retire

Howard Eskin of Sports Final on WIP radio is reporting that Eagles running back Brian Westbrook is thinking about retiring.According to Eskin, Westbrook's left knee may force him to hang up the cleats.

Westbrook is scheduled to make $7.5 million dollars next season, and even if he does not retire, the Eagles may decide to trade or release Westbrook. Westbrook would be replaced by LeSean McCoy.

The Eagles would also have to add another running back to take some pressure off of McCoy. Westbrook only ran for 271 yards in 2009. Westbrook has never played a full season in his NFL career.

Todd Heap Unlikely To Return To Ravens In 2010

Rich Dubroff of the Carroll County Times is reporting that Ravens tight end Todd Heap will likely not return to the Ravens next season. Heap is scheduled to make $4 million next season.

L.J. Smith, the Ravens second string tight end, is scheduled to become a free agent after the season. One possibility could be David Martin, who played under Ravens offensive coordinator Cam Cameron in Miami.

Heap could catch on with a team looking for a short term option at tight end, or a team that uses a lot of two tight end sets. Smith is also unlikely to return to the Ravens next season after he was a disappointment in his first season with the team.

Reggie Bush Could Be Heading To Seattle?

Internet rumors are swirling, and you know Bleacher Report is the capital of very unlikely NFL rumors, so guess where this next rumor comes from. Alex Akita thinks that Saints running back Reggie Bush could land in Seattle in 2010.

Here is what I think about the possibility of Bush leaving the Saints and joining the Seahawks. It's about as likely as Curtis Painter throwing a touchdown pass, or Peter King going a day without writing something that is wrong.

Here are the reasons Akita thinks Bush will be heading to Seattle....

1. Pete Carroll - Reggie Bush reunion

My Take: The seahawks would have to offer the saints a significant offer (their first round pick) for Bush, who the saints are really high on right now after his great performance against the Cardinals. The Seahawks would not be willing to do that.

2. Reggie Bush lives on the west coast

My Take: Who cares. Bush is not the Saints GM.

3. Seahawks need a RB

My Take: Yes they do, but they don't need another speed guy, that's why they have Forsett

4. Kim Kardashian lives on the west coast

My Take: Really? Is this the best you can come up with? C'mon man. Child please.

VIDEO: Kurt Warner Gets Jacked Up

VIDEO: Reggie Bush 46 Yard TD Run

Ed Reed To Retire?

The Associated Press is reporting that Baltimore Ravens safety Ed Reed could retire. Reed told the AP that there is a 50% chance that he will retire. Reed is probably the Ravens best player on defense.

Reed is in my opinion the best safety in the history of the NFL. Reed has great awareness in coverage, good hands, and solid tackling ability. Something that is very hard to find. Reed has intercepted 46 career passes.

What I remember Reed for was not his interceptions, but what he did after he intercepted a pass. Reed has returned 13 interceptions for touchdowns in his career. Reed intercepted tow passes yesterday, but only one counted. The one that counted, he fumbled.

Brooks: Adams Was Let Down About Trade

The Greenville News is reporting that Chicago Bears defensive end Gaines Adams has died. Adams, 26, apparently died from a heart attack. Adams was taken to Self Regional Hospital In Greenwood S.C.

Adams was the fourth overall pick in the 2007 NFL draft after a standout career with Clemson. Derrick Brooks wrote on his twitter in a tweet to former Buccaneer Cato June, that Adams seemed letdown about being traded to the bears.

Here is the tweet: "@CatoJune59 dude send me any Gaines news boy did he seem too let down about trade i thought he was over it n gettin ready for offseason." It could be possible that stress from the trade could have been a factor in this horrible accident.

Also, it is interesting to me, that Bengals wide receiver Chris Henry was tragically killed in the same area that Adams died in.

Video Of The Day

Stats Of The Day

You guys thought the Cardinals put up some crazy numbers last week. At halftime, the Saints and Cardinals have scored 49 points. The Saints set their record for most points scored in a playoff game. In the first half.

Player Of The Day

Reggie Bush. The dude is acting like a man possessed. He is starting to look like the player he was in college, and it is not just being physical. I think part of it could be poor tackling by the Cardinals, but still, Bush is looking like Matt Leinart is still his quarterback.

Speaking Of Matt Leinart

Leinart played a couple of snaps just before halftime. He was pretty accurate, but he did not have much of an arm. I can't see the Cards a playoff team without Warner.

Giants Hire Former Bills Head Coach

The New York Giants have announced that they have hired former Buffalo Bills head coach Perry Fewell as their defensive coordinator. Fewell replaces Bill Sheridan, who is expected to join the Miami Dolphins.

Fewell took over as the Bills head coach during the middle of the season after the Bills fired head coach DICK Jauron. The Bills were an average team under Fewell, winning three out of seven games.

Fewell was born in Gastonia, North Carolina, a very sad looking poor town where I have a dear relative. Fewell has worked his butt off the bast 20-plus years from a graduate assistant to an NFL head coach.

Panthers Fire Special teams coordinator

The Associated Press is reporting that the Carolina Panthers have fired special teams coordinator Danny Crossman. The Panthers were the second worst team returning kicks in 2009.

The Panthers were the third worst team at covering kickoffs in 2009, and the fourth worst team at covering punts. The Panthers bright spot came on punt returns, where they ranked 17th overall.

Crossman has worked with the Panthers since 2003, a year before the Panthers went to the Super Bowl. Before heading to Carolina, Crossman served as the special teams coordinator and linebackers coach at Michigan State.

Cowher Looking To Join Giants

Jerome Bettis told Chris Russo on SIRIUS XM that former Pittsburgh Steelers head coach Bill Cowher. Bettis told Russo that he thinks that Cowher will return to the NFL with the Giants. C0wher last coached in 2006.

Cowher has also been reportedly intrigued by the Panther's job, where he currently lives in the great state of North Carolina. Cowher was contacted by the Buffalo Bills this offseason, and he was rumored to be contacted by the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.

Cowher is known for making run-oriented offenses and blitzing 3-4 defenses. Perhaps his biggest accomplishment was developing quarterback Ben Roethlisberger into a star as a rookie. Cowher currently works on CBS's NFL Today.

Raiders Could Hire Steve Mariucci

Tim Kawakimi of the San Jose Mercury News is reporting that the Oakland Raiders could hire former Detroit Lions head coach Steve Mariucci. Mariucci was rumored to be the frontrunner for the job at USC.

Of course Mariucci ended up just being a rumored candidate, after the Trojans hired Tennessee's Lane Kiffin hours after the rumor surfaced. Mariucci currently works as an anaylist for NFL Network.

Mariucci failed to develop Joey Harrington into a quality quarterback while he was coaching the Lions. Mariucci has also coached in California and with the San Francisco 49ers. Mariucci has been out of the NFL since 2006.

Texans Hire Dennison Offensive Coordinator

The Houston Chronicle is reporting that the Houston Texans have hired Denver Broncos offensive line coach Rick Dennison as their offensive coordinator. Dennison replaces Kyle Shanahan.

Shanahan left to join his father, Mike, in Washington where Kyle is serving as the redskins' offensive coordinator. Kubiak and Dennison played with each other in the 80's with the Broncos. Kubiak was Elway's backup, and Dennison played linebacker.

In 2006 Kubiak tried to hire Dennison as his offensive coordinator. Mike Shanahan did not let him, and Kubiak hires Shanahan's son, Kyle. The Denver Post expects the Broncos to change offensive schemes without Dennison.

Michael Vick Could Join Ravens In 2010

With Troy Smith looking to move on in free agency, it would not surprise me if the Ravens trade for Michael Vick this offseason. Smith is looking for a team that will give him a chance to be their starting quarterback.

Vick could be heading out of Philadelphia in 2010 as the Eagles rethink their investment in him. Vick is costing the Eagles close to $5 million dollars a year, and his one touchdown run, and two touchdown passes don't fit the Bill.

Vick would continue to fill the role of a gadget player in Baltimore until he can prove that he is a starting quarterback in the NFL. Since the Ravens are deeply in love with Joe Flacco, Vick won't see his starting quarterback days in Baltimore, if he will at all.

Seahawks Hire Gibbs To Coach Offensive Line

With the recent hiring of Pete Carroll as the Seahawks head coach, Carroll has already made a key hire in his first couple of hours as the Hawks' head coach. Chris Mortenson of ESPN.com is reporting that the Seahawks have hired Alex Gibbs to coach their offensive line.

Gibbs was serving as the Houston texans' assistant head coach and offensive assistant. Gibbs helped develop a strong running attack in Atlanta that featured Warrick Dunn and T.J. Duckett. Duckett is currently a Seahawk.

Gibbs helped the Texans create one of the top rushing units in the NFL in 2008, and he helped create a solid offensive line while he was in Houston. Other than Howard Mudd, I think Gibbs is the best offensive line guru in the NFL.

Steve Mariucci Top Candidate To Coach At USC

Adam Schefter of ESPN is reporting that former Detroit Lions head coach Steve Mariucci is the top candidate to take over for Pete Carroll at USC. Schefter is reporting that Jaguars head coach Jack Del Rio is not interested in the Trojan's opening.

Mariucci currently works with NFL Network on their NFL GameDay show. Mariucci last coached three seasons with the Detroit Lions, where he was unable to develop Joey Harrington. Mariucci coached the 49ers from 1997 to 2002.

Before his tenure with the 49ers, Mariucci was the head coach of the California Golden Bears. Mariucci spent some time in Las Angeles already, when he served as the Rams' offensive quality control coach.

Woman Beaten For Wearing Romo Uniform

MyFoxPhilly is reporting that a woman wearing a Tony Romo jersuy was beaten while entering a Philadelphia convenience store. Jamie Wert, claims she was approached by two men in Eagle jerseys.

According to Wert, one man said "Hey, Romo", and as she turned around the other hit her with something on her face.

Wert needs to learn an important lesson: Don't poke the tiger. I mean really? After she got jacked up by the Iggle fans, she decided it would be a good idea to hang some posters outside her house saying "GO COWBOYS" and "KILL THE BIRDS".

It's kind of like me going into downtown LA, and rapping Lose Yourself at the top of my lungs. Wert, as Chad Ochocinco would say, Child Please!

Bills Could Go After McNabb

Bob Matthews of Democrat and Chronicle is reporting that the Buffalo Bills could try to trade for Philadelphia Eagles quarterback Donovan McNabb. Matthews thinks the Bills could also add Sam Bradford or Jimmy Clausen.

The Eagles could consider handing the reigns to Kevin Kolb, who impressed me this season after his poor game in 2008. McNabb would be the Bills short term solution at quarterback until they develop a long term option.

McNabb would return to New York where he played at Syracuse in college. Matthews thinks a mid round pick in the 2010 draft, and an early future draft pick could lure the Eagles to trade McNabb.

Julius Peppers Could Land In New England

Albert R. Breer of the Boston Globe is reporting that the New England Patriots could sign Carolina Panthers defensive end Julius Peppers in free agency. The Patriots are looking to replace Adalius Thomas.

The Patriots tried to trade for Peppers earlier this season, but the Panthers were not interested. The Patriots pass rush has not been the same since Mike Vrabel left to Kansas City. Peppers is unlikely to return to Carolina.

If the Panthers franchise Peppers, Peppers would make over $20 million in 2010, which would make him one of the most expensive players in the history of the NFL. Peppers has the versatility to play end in 4-3 and linebacker in 3-4.
