Takeo Spikes to sign with Chargers

San Francisco 49ers inside linebacker Takeo Spikes will sign with the San Diego Chargers, the San Diego Union-Tribune reports. Spikes follows new Chargers defensive coordinator Greg Manusky from San Francisco to San Diego.

The deal is three years long, which is a pretty long deal for a 34 year old free agent linebacker pickup who has been playing since 1998. But the Chargers need help, and bodies at inside linebacker, where five of their ILBs are unrestricted free agents.

Spikes has never played in a playoff game, so moving south probably had a lot to do with his desire to win a Super Bowl before he retires.
